Entries are display most recent first.

Please note - due to a recent "hacking" incident -
entries between August 2008 and December 2011 were lost.
Unfortunately- every effort to recover the lost entries was unsuccessful
as even the backup files were corrupted beyond repair. Fortunately an off-site
backup of the earlier entries was available and is here. We regret this loss.

My Father, Santino Angelo, sailed on the USS BUSHNELL from 1955-1959. He was part of the repair division and also played softball for the Navy while he was stationed in Key West. I know he would like to hear from some of his old shipmates. Hope to hear from you soon. Sharon Angelo

Bushnell

Comments:

I was on the Bushnell in 69 and 70. We decommissioned Her. I was a cook striker. I remember having to red lead one of the elevator shafts when we were closing shop. We decided it would be easier to just throw the 5 gallon pail down the shaft and then go in after it and smear it around. I spent most of my time fishing out on the outer pier. Love them tarpon! I was on the Fulton also till fall of 71. I was on the boat crew there. I remember spraying ether on the Lorna Doons when we were loading stores then feeding them to the birds. How stupid that was. But they sure acted silly trying to fly. I remember playing alot of Led Zepplin on the 8 track I had in my rack. We would bring it up on deck at night. Would sure like to hear from any shipmates! Kim *Skeeter* Ries (MM3) Frank mccord (MM3) Carl *Doc* Thurmond (??) Arnold Rapp (EN3?) C. Owen Force (??2)...or anyone else who i've forgotten to mention. Dennis Badurina

L Y Spear

Comments:

I just came upon this web page and had a look at the L Y Spear info. I was disappointed that it didn't list the CO who put her in commission at Quincy, Mass ... Captain Ghormley. I am a plank owner. I went to her during construction at Quincy as Assistant Repair Officer, and retired from her in 1972 at Norfolk. I was the senior OOD below the Navigator, and was on the bridge during her shakedown, and subsequent maneuvering watches, GQ and Gen Emergencies, and during her training at Guantanimo Bay before she joined the Fleet at Norfolk in Squadron Six. I also did a short tour on USS Orion as Nuc Repair Officer. Wrote her Nuc Repair Manual, Quality Control Manual, and co-authored her Radiation-Contamination Control Manual for Nuc repair work. That was just prior to going to Spear. Thanks. Harry mcafee, Lt, USN (ret) Jane, Missouri

Proteus AS 19

Comments:

I am a proud ex-proteus sailor (80-84). I recently read on your site that the "Ol Pro" was finally towed out and "put away". My Question is this Is there any way, or any person that could get me a "piece of her" ? All I want is just a chunck of metal from her. I know this sounds realy bizarre, but that ship was a (the ) part of my life for 4 years.

Proteus

Comments:

My husband served on the Proteus from 6/62 to about 12/64. Finding these pages has brought back memories for him and enjoyment for me and our children and grandchildren. He was in Holy Loch and Rota for most of the time and based out of Charlestown. I'm sure he would enjoy hearing from old shipmates, if possible. Our son is also a Navy vet, having served 6 years as an X-ray tech in Philly and later in Maryland. Thanks for a great site! His name, by the way, is Robert Kelly, but he was called "Rabbits" and he was an MR3. Pat Kelly
