Entries are display most recent first.

Please note - due to a recent "hacking" incident -
entries between August 2008 and December 2011 were lost.
Unfortunately- every effort to recover the lost entries was unsuccessful
as even the backup files were corrupted beyond repair. Fortunately an off-site
backup of the earlier entries was available and is here. We regret this loss.

USS Holland AS-32

Comments:

I definately have some stories regarding the weapons station in goose creek, s.c. And as an engineman stationed in the hole from 1984-1988 on the holland. I also have alot of pictures of the enginerooms and exterior of the ship. I could probably get them on disk and email them to you if you wanted. I would like to commend you on an excellent holland profile. My request has to do with locating the holland specifically and find out if it is okay to tour it or get memorabilia???? I know it's in suisun, california. I tried contacting all the navy and coast guard bases to get the location. They either didn't know or didn't want to say. If you can give me any more specific info or a contact person, that would be super! Thank you very much, God bless you and america....

USS Holland

Comments:

I wanted to correct a mistake made about USS Holland's overhaul of 1982. I was in the Deck/Crane Division from 1980-1983 as a 3rd class Boatswains Mate. We pulled into Charleston, SC in mid February of 1982 (somewhee around the 22nd) and we left Charleston, headed for Gitmo, Cuba around the end of March of 1983. We returned to Charleston on April 5, 1983. I know this because I left Holland on April 19, 1983, headed for home as this was the end of my enlistment. I really enjoyed my time on USS Holland , both in holyloch, and in Charleston. I was in the S-1 Div., and the Deck department where I stood watches and duty, including, Damage Control, Rad Con, and Backup Alert Force. I went on to serve three more years in the Reserve Fleet , leaving, as a 2nd Class Boatswains Mate, to enter College. I would like to hear from former shipmates .

Name:

Stephanie J. Williamson

Tender:

USS Canopus

Comments:

I served very proudly aboard Canopus in the S-2 Division from 12/92 to 4/94. I was a young, married MS3 at the time. I worked in Vegtable Prep., Cook on Watch, and the Night Cook for my last 7 months prior to my return to the real world here in Indiana. I have put together a decent scrapbook from my time onboard and will never forget those spaces and places she used to make us all a family. While I am very busy with my family (husband Paul, daughter Rachel- 6, and son PJ- 9 mos.) And my career . I own and operate a very successful housekeeping business in the Indianapolis area and surrounding cities (4.5 years now). I will make time to correspond with anyone who remembers me, wants to try to, or has any relationship or contact with any of my dear shipmates. I miss you all very much!!! I have been out for some 7 years now and I still cry and yearn for my Canopus. One would think that I buried my entire family the day of the decom. Ceremony...I actually had been back for several visits prior to the ceremony, once she had returned from Va. I Even put my cooks uniform back on and proudly donned my crow on last time to aid my fellow MS's in the preparation necessary for the reception to be a smashing success. That was nearly 6 mos. After I left Canopus as a crew member from Norfolk on 28 April 1994, to fly back to Jax. And my husband of now nearly 12 years, and pursue my degree in Criminal Justice, which I achieved, graduating with Honors from Georgia Military College in June,1996. To this day, I thank the U.S.S. Canopus and her compliment for enabling me to have gone so far, and reap soooo much.... Please get in touch with me. I would Love to hear from anyone out there who can type.
