Entries are display most recent first.

Please note - due to a recent "hacking" incident -
entries between August 2008 and December 2011 were lost.
Unfortunately- every effort to recover the lost entries was unsuccessful
as even the backup files were corrupted beyond repair. Fortunately an off-site
backup of the earlier entries was available and is here. We regret this loss.

USS Rainbow

Comments:

I have in my possession a photo of a young sailor whom I am trying to identify. The card on which it is mounted says: A-BOO Photographer Cheefoo. On the back someone has written: Aboard Rainbow in China Star. This photo is mounted in a very old silk fram, with a paper eagle above banners made to look like the American flag. On the back someone has again written, only this time it says: <illegible> in Nagasaki Japan. I THINK this young man is a Great Great Uncle of mine by the name of Leland S. "Sandy" Warren who served in the Navy in WWI. Any help appreciated, also if it is him and he did serve on this ship I'd love to get a copy of the picture to anyone interested. Thanks!

I got on the USS Aegir in Oct. 1944 and went to Panama, San Diego, Pearl Harbor, and Midway Island. As did John N. Joll. We came home on a sub unknown to Pearl, we shipped on Orion through Panama, to Yorktown Virginia, Stapleton, Staten Island in September 1945. Anyone know info about Cy Himmellgarn? Or anyone else on the ship with me during these dates? Please contact me at my email:

TM2, MK 37 Shop, aboard 1965 to '69. Ports were Rota, Charleston for yard work, Goose Creek Weapons Station, then back to Rota. Memories vary from cold, wet snowy pier watches, helmsman going through the English Channel to great "in town" time with good friends...
