Entries are display most recent first.

Please note - due to a recent "hacking" incident -
entries between August 2008 and December 2011 were lost.
Unfortunately- every effort to recover the lost entries was unsuccessful
as even the backup files were corrupted beyond repair. Fortunately an off-site
backup of the earlier entries was available and is here. We regret this loss.

I am doing research on the USN submarines during WW2. I was wondering if any of you WW2 vets could help me with what SubRon/SubDiv any of the subs and tenders were assigned. The base of these SubRon/SubDiv's would be helpful too. I would also like to personally thank ALL the vets that served this country.

Name:

Nancy Andrews Tuxford

Tender:

USS Sperry

Comments:

My father, James G. Andrews, was the Commanding Officer of the Sperry from 7/58 - 7/59. I was 5 when he took command and I thought I'd never seen such a beautiful ship. I remember seeing the subs tied up to her sides and riding the gig out to the Sperry. Although I was young, I have great memories of that year in Coronado and the USS Sperry. I know that my father, who passed some years ago, would be so proud to know that his grandson is joining the Marines and carrying on the military tradition in our family. God bless all of you who have served and those who supported you and kept the home front running.

My father, Larry (age 90) served on the submarine tender Gilmore during the years 1942-43 as manager of the repair department. We would be interested to hear from anyone who may have been on the Gilmore during that timeframe.
