News Letter
Just two weeks! - then it's:
Radio Sings Spring in the Park
1998 Annual Member's Meeting
Show and SwapMeet
To be held APRIL 11, 1998 8AM until...
At Meridian's beautiful Highland Park
On the agenda for the day:
- 8 AM swap meet
- 10 AM Annual Business Meeting
- 11 AM Auction
Plenty of sellers tables are available for the swap meet. There will be Old Time Broadcasts on the air (both AM and FM Stereo) all day - and many nice radios in the mini-museum. Since this is an "outdoor" event - the main theme of the mini-museum display this year will be portable radios... of course.
We have a large pavilion with a BBQ pit that will be fired and cooking rain or shine - bring your own Hot Dogs, Burgers, etc. and fixin's (cold sodas will be available) -- and have a great day in Meridian's gorgeous Highland Park.
Highland Park is the home of the Jimmie Rogers Museum and also home to one of the finest - completely restored and functional Dentzel Carousels in the world- and both will be open in the afternoon.
There is a large - nice and clean playground for the Kids... baseball, soccer and football fields and tennis courts... and for the Ladie's favorite activity --- we're only minutes from the fabulous new Bonita Lakes Mall. Plenty of close, convenient parking.
RV's are welcome at Highland Park as well--- some 30+ RV / trailer hook-up sites right next to the pavilion! So - if you want to drive your RV into Meridian Friday evening and spend the night at the park - just let us know - and we'll have everything ready for you. There is a $10 fee that is paid to the City of Meridian Parks and Recreation fund - which includes your space, water and power for the night! And you are just feet from the radio action! If you want to spend the night - please let us know in advance so we can have the arrangements made - then you can come in anytime that night and not have a hassle!
So come prepared to burn a burger or two - swap some radios and some stories - and have a great time!!!

Radio Collecting Today
We've spent that last few issues discussing the hobby - and the issues of modern technology - and how they are - and likely to affect the hobby as we have known it. There is no doubt that the Internet is having a tremendous impact on the "collecting" end of the hobby - there is a raging debate on rec.antiques.radio+phono about eBay - and it's effects. Prices that some radios have sold for recently have been staggering. Radios that probably would never have seen the light of day are suddenly showing up available - so the supply side of the hobby is seeing a boost as well.
Another area of the hobby that is being affected - and happily - much less controversial - is the amount of technical information, data and general help that is available from many sources. Our own museum has a couple of construction articles about building things that are useful in the hobby (the 515 AM transmitter - and "The Bench"). Other sites have copies of service data and schematics - One site bills itself as the "Philco Repair Bench" and as the name implies - is loaded with Philco service data, schematics, and tidbits of useful and interesting things "Philco". Most agree that this is a very healthy addition to the hobby - it will help get more radios fixed and hopefully more people interested in the hobby in general. So on this note this article will wrap up our look at Radio Collecting - and the internet - and what follows is a list of URL's that have interesting things to for the Radio hobbiest:
